I have Norton, but I am getting a refund because it takes up to much memory, is always running a scan in the background, takes up too much RAM and CPU. I think Norton uses it’s product as a marketing tool to push sales as much as it repels viruses

Not everyone is experienced enough with the web to know that there are perfectly decent free firewalls and free anti-virus online. For a beginner though it’s probably easier just to buy it, especially if they feel they need the extra features that come with the paid ones. It’s probably a good thing that lots of people pay for it, as it enables these companies to offer free versions for the rest of us.

If there are free anti-virus programs around then why did you pay $50 for Norton?
Is it because they believe you don’t get something for nothing in the real world and they are suspicious of the free versions of anti-virus prgrams?
You seem to answered your own question.

Because one like norton advertise and get more attention, so people who aren’t really computer people will go out and purchases them, while in reality if you have some decent computer knowledge you can go out and find one that works the same for free.

Because free ones like AVG usually only catch 75% of the potential threats.

Free ones are junk.use a brand name one and keep it updated you will be happy you did.

Some free anti virus and spyware scan your computer for free but you need to pay if you want your computer cleaned. Norton is about $35-40 (just Norton). I tried and it was OK. I am not an expert about anti virus and people around me aren’t either. Now I am trying anti-cybercrime (it came with my desktop). According to the computer seller, it’s good and nobody has complained, yet (That’s his job).
