Don’t tell me eBay or the Flea Market I want to know places online that specialize in older hardware and software. I want to build or buy a PC that can play some of my favorite older games.
First of all, Harry, I’m not e-mailing you. Why wouldn’t you just name the places in your ANSWER that’s what this feature is here for! And ELfaGeek, do you honestly think I never thought to ask people? I mean I did come to Yahoo ANSWERS so I could ASK people where I can get this… I’m asking for places online that specialize in old hardware and software!

You don’t have to. If you want to play your old games, try Microsoft Virtual PC. It is an operating system running on another operating system. EG. Run windows 98 in Windows XP. If the Windows 98 crash, you can reinstall the Windows 98 again in Virtual PC. Download it from Microsoft.

Don’t even bother installing Win 98. Just install XP or Vista, then when you try to run and older program or game, right click and go to properties, then set the compatibility mode to Win 98 and your all set.
Don’t even bother with Windows Virtual PC. You don’t need a whole nother operating system. Do it now, go and right click a program, select properties, click the compatibility tab, select run in compatibility mode, then select the OS to be compatible with and your set.

Ask friends and family if they have an old Windows 98 PC laying around. You’d be surprised how many people keep them.
You could also run an ad in the local newspaper, radio station or check at the Salvation Army or St Vincent DePaul store, I see them there all the time.

I would recommend you make your own machine, make sure all of the peripherals are Windows 98 compatible and then install Win98 on it. This site still sells OEM copies of it:.
Also, if you have a pretty good machine, you can create a virtual machine with VMWorkstation or VirtualPC on which you can install Win98 and run your games from there.
