What is the best anti software that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? I’m currently using Norton’s symantic, but that will expire soon. Also not that fond of Nortons. Is it safe to download anti virus software fromthe internet?

depends what kind of software you download. be careful of imitators because you may think that its an anti virus but its actually a virus. the free anti virus i trust is avg and avast, they are pretty legit for a free one. i personally use bitdefender and other good anti virus are kaspersky and nod32

We use AVG Free edition and it works great.

If you want to use an open source anti-virus program, I recommend clamwin:. It is free and does a decent job. If you prefer a name brand option, then I believe windows live one care is the cheapest. You can find it on sale for $25 (officemax) and it will cover up to 3 computers.

The best protection will probably cost you but for free try AVG free edition and for anti spyware i like lavasoft’s ad-aware
both can be downloaded at cnet’s download.com where you can also read reviews and top recommendations for every program.

avg is a good one, I got one through a free download and get it updated every day, works really great for me. Nod32 is also a good one. yeah, I have used Norton before, it does not seem to work well for me.
