Does anyone know anyhting about this? I was told by my boss that Google was paying someone to sit and run software that generated fraudulent clicks on their PPC program. The software would mask it’s IP address and randomly click PPC ads, recording the PPC charge and then the guy running the show got a percentage of the value of the fraudulent clicks. My boss actually says that Google themselves orchestrated this fraud and that the Securities and Exchange Commision was investigating the operation, which has been shut down, to evaluate which laws Google actually broke- being that there isn’t a lot of precedence for fraud in the PPC market. Does anyone know anything about this? I’d really like to know the URL of a website that might have information regarding this. My boss says he can’t find the article now where he originally read the story.

So instead of hiring someone to do something that inefficient… Why wouldn’t google ***** open the log files, alter them and be done with it. $10 worth of labor instead of lots… Sounds like an urban legend to me.

Google did settle and SEC action in 2005 that involved some technical errors in options related to its initial public offering.
According to the SEC Web site, that is the only action since 2005 initiated against Google.
You should tell your boss that he should exercise as much care in defaming other people’s businesses as he wishes would be exercised by others when it comes to defaming his business.
