Can ordinary people with extensive knowledge in the Accounting Softwares (e.g. QuickBooks Pro and MYOB) available in the market replace the Certified Public Accountants in their normal day to day accounting (e.g. Bookkeeping) jobs?

no, they can do some of the work but not all, they can stand up in front of the IRS and several other things.

No. You have to know all the tax laws and accounting principles like GAAP. And like the person above stated, you have to meet with the IRS during audits.

In my opinion, CPAs have to go through a lot of requirements in order pass the exam to get their license. Ordinary people who have an extensive knowledge of accounting software applications like the above mentioned are very capable; however they need to be authorized in order to legally execute accounting work. My answer would be negative; however they could become a CPA if complying with all requirements at the state they are residents.
